Every Breath a Blessing: Discovering Purpose in Respiratory Care

Respiratory therapists are on the front lines of patient care and understand the importance of breathing easy. Working in hospitals, emergency rooms, intensive care units, and even patients’ homes, they manage ventilators, administer oxygen therapy, and provide life-saving interventions for patients of all ages—from premature infants to elderly adults.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for respiratory therapists is projected to grow by 13% through 2032—much faster than the average for all occupations.

This growth is driven by an aging population and increased awareness of respiratory conditions like asthma, COPD, and sleep apnea.

Is Respiratory Care a calling for you?

Great question! Ask yourself:

  • Do I have a calm, compassionate presence in stressful situations?

  • Am I drawn to science, especially biology and human anatomy?

  • Do I enjoy helping others breathe easier—literally and figuratively?

  • Am I interested in healthcare and looking for opportunities for growth?

Respiratory therapists are found in fast-paced environments, but also in diagnostic or more calm roles such as Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Pulmonary function labs, sleep testing, home care, and more!
